Semiotica

This curatorial project by Nardin Maayteh welcomed the following oil on panel works by Erin:

Mutable!

It could be better somewhere else, but there is a time or place that does not exist

Do not close your eyes

The exhibit about symbolic identity and self-reclamation explored these themes in a non-linear, or literal way. It encouraged artists to not think chronologically or through the identities given to them. Instead, artists created symbolism for the self-reclamation of their identity from given labels and experiences.

Within Semiotica, Erin’s work takes city pigeons as symbols. Once domesticated there is no re-wilding, just endless rebelling, seeking some understanding to what is and finding a response to what comes their way. These birds have become something new for themselves, despite having only known this place and those who have raised them.
