Semiotica 2: Play
In the second iteration of this curatorial project by Nardin Maayteh welcomed Erin's Maybe I'm not a mustard seed (2026).
The exhibit moved past the semiotics of identity towards revisioning play. It encouraged artists to not construct a complete idea, rather, explore.
Within Semiotica, Erin’s piece emerged from a desire to pursue a more eco-friendly practice in addition to considering their childhood anxieties. Often too serious for their own good, the artist never pushed into places she was told not to go; she resisted making or showing process before she could be considered good at something. The artist did not plan an image, but instead tried to grind pigment and create oil paint with no experience, completed by getting lost in local brush, contemplating the tenant of everything being made of cones, cylinders, and spheres, mulling on glass, then painting poorly a simple image on rice paper. Ephemeral!
